January Lesson Plans Series 3 [Four 5-day Unit]

In our January unit we begin as we celebrate the New Year! We learn about Martin Luther King Jr and do some fun activities surrounding his birthday. Students have fun indoors while it’s snowing outdoors. We do lots of snow activities, learn how to rhyme with Mother Goose and end our month putting some wheels in motion.

In this 5-day New Year unit, the students will ring in the New Year with lots of music, confetti and fun! They will discover what it means when we say “out with the old and in with the new”. A fun unit just in time for some holiday fun.
All Snowed In
Day 1: It’s Snowing
Day 2: Letter Y Day
Day 3: Stuck Indoors
Day 4: Don’t Be Flaky
Day 5: Shoveling Out
In this 5-day Winter unit, we are all snowed in for 5 days of wintry activities. The students will enjoy catching snowflakes, learning the type of clothing we should be wearing, making snow cones, and learning all about the letter Y. Discover the fun of staying indoors, playing games, making ice cream and discovering snow crystals. Sure to keep them busy when it’s cold outside and snow is all around. Enjoy!

Day 3: Shape: Triangle
Day 4: Read-A-Rhyme
Day 5: Mother Goose
In this 5-day Mother Goose rhyming unit, the students play three little kittens game and match the mittens. Students count up to 7 on Number 7 day and do a variety of activities reinforcing the number. Students learn about the shape; triangle as they make a hat with three corners. They finish up the rhyming week by reading a rhyme, making their very own rhyming booklet, use their imaginations in the story clouds and working on Mother Goose picture puzzles. Enjoy!
Wheels In Motion
Day 1: Color Black
Day 2: Letter V Day
Day 3: The Bus Driver
Day 4: Cycle Fun
Day 5: Things That Go Round
In this unit we learn all about things that go round and round. We begin working on activities associated with the color black. Students learn about the letter V when they build a van and take a ride in a pretend vehicle. They will enjoy craft time as they cut and glue children on the school bus. We learn about bicycles and tricycles and make a pinwheel. Finishing up the week learning all about gears and how things work.
