Week 1 - Me & My Family (5-day Thematic Unit)
Day 1: Labor Day
Day 2: Letter Ee
Day 3: My Family Heritage
Day 4: Number 1
Day 5: Grandparent’s Day
In this unit, we will learn all about Labor Day and what makes this day special. Our families will get involved when we invite them to help the children with their heritage sheets and when returned we share them with each other. We continue to learn a lot about our families when we work on our family crests and create an ancestor map. The children begin learning the alphabet with the Letter Ee. The children explore the letter Ee while they enjoy an Elephant craft project.
Week 2 - Celebrate Books (5-day Thematic Unit)
Day 1: Lil’ Book Worm
Day 2: My Bookshelf
Day 3: Story Time Library
Day 4: Community Helper: The Librarian
Day 5: Letter Hh
In this unit, we read aloud some fun picture books and do activities relating to the books. The children see how maybe Jack from ’Jack in the Beanstalk’ might have grown his beans when we create our own beanstalk garden. During the week we have some fun in the kitchen when we cook up some Spaghetti & Meatballs. The children will create a classroom library and get a chance to check out some of our favorite library books. The class will create their own Nursery Rhymes. We close this week studying the alphabet letter Hh.
Week 3 – Back To School (5-day Thematic Unit)
Day 1: Safe Walk to School
Day 2: Colors: Red & Green
Day 3: Following the Signs
Day 4: Shape: Circle
Day 5: The School Bus
In this unit, we will learn the importance of being safe while we take walks and how to safely walk to school. In our study we also learn about the many different signs to know about that help us stay safe and their meanings. We have fun exploring the colors Red & Green. The children will do activities and play some fun games surrounding both colors. We identify the shape Circle and finish with some fun on the school bus. We all sing ‘The Wheels on the Bus’ and head for the kitchen to make yummy School Bus Crackers.
Week 4 - Orchard Time (5-day Thematic Unit)
Day 1: Johnny Appleseed’s Birthday
Day 2: Letter Ll
Day 3: Apples A-Plenty
Day 4: Number: 2
Day 5: Bushel Bushel Basket
In this unit, we celebrating Johnny Appleseed’s birthday and having some fun in our pretend Orchard. We study the many fruits that grow on trees while visiting our (pretend) Orchard. We will sort and count Apples, Peaches, Pears and Cherries. The letter of this week is Ll and the children get a chance to dabble in frosting when invited to decorate leaf cut out cookies. We are introduced to the number 2 and make and take home our own Number 2 pop-up Books.

The Letters of the month are Ee Hh & Ll
Our Shape is the Circle
Our Numbers are 1 & 2
Our fire drill is scheduled for Week One
Our emergency drill is scheduled for Week Four
